Introduction to CommerceBuddy

CommerceBuddy is a windows-based program that will connect to your web site to retrieve orders and update your CartIt configurations (options). It also allows you to do off line order management and perform customer service tasks.

Getting Started

  1. Enter Your Configurations and Options
The first thing you must do after CartIt has been setup on your web site is to enter all of your configurations for CartIt and CommerceBuddy. You do this from the Options menu. Click on Options, then select each of the options available to you. Each option should be thought out carefully. If you have any questions about the information that must be entered, you can click the Help button. If no help button is available, press F1.
  2. Publishing Your Configurations
Once you have entered all of your configurations and options in each dialog box, you can go online and update your configurations. This can be done from the Online button.
Go Online then select "Publish Options and Configurations"
A Common Mistake: After this is complete, CartIt should begin to function. If you fail to do this, CartIt will report a system busy error message when you attempt to add an item to the shopping cart.
  3. Create ImpactObject Templates
Creating ImpactObject Templates is a very important part of using CommerceBuddy for your online order management. ImpactObject Templates are like using mail merge with a form letter. When you start the ImpactObject editor click the "New" button, CommerceBuddy provides several examples.

After you have completed the above three actions you can begin to use CommerceBuddy. To learn more about how to use CommerceBuddy, create a product page on your web site. Place several test orders, then go "Online" with CommerceBuddy to retrieve the orders. You can then familiarize yourself with CommerceBuddy before your commerce site goes live!
